Jamaica vision 2013

I remember when I did community service in my second year of studies at the University of Technology. I was introduced to the whole fantasy of vision 2030 and what we as Jamaicans can supposedly look forward to. In recent times I have come to the conclusion that this fantasy that has been created in the minds of some of Jamaicans will forever be nothing more than a fantasy. For instance with an ever increasing crime rate, unemployment increasing and children being abused and killed who will really be around to supposedly enjoy this fantasy Jamaica that is being complied in some of our minds.
When one of the young leaders of our country can stand up and say that it is best if the young minds of our nation migrate and seek employment elsewhere it suggests to me that perhaps our leaders are creating this fantasy of vision 2030 to enjoy for themselves. In how many decision makings are we as lay men and women incorporated in? They take what they please from us and leave us dry walking and begging for bread after bleeding our pockets dry. Our leaders would rather sit and argue over trivial matters or about who has bad mouthed them rather than speak of the death of the youngest members of our nation or the ever increasing unemployment rate. Perhaps I should once again remind our leaders that the most important resources of a country are indeed its people .

Jamaica's troubles are centered around the corrupted leaders we have and poverty due to lack of opportunities. For years we as young people were encouraged to continue to educate ourselves and in the end the country will benefit from the knowledge that we have garnered in the classroom. Instead of stepping out into the world to share the knowledge we are enclosed in the rooms of our houses to simply reflect on our educational journey or cry about the ever mounting debts that have to be paid after embarking on this journey that was suppose to change our lives for the better.

If the head is shaky in due time the body will fall beneath it. The heads of our nation lack vision and instead of allowing the bright young minds that walk amongst them the opportunity to  step up and show what they can do they sit and  carve their bodies in the parliament chairs as if they will take them with them to their graves. What more do you believe you can offer? Times are changing around us while our country continues to have the same old faces feebly standing up to represent us. Is the vision 2030 designed for  our leaders or for the citizens because if it is designed for the leaders it seems more attainable then as they live a fairytale life every single day as they are covered by their body guards and rest their heads on their plush pillows. The only people who vision 2030 seems like a fairy tale for and for which they will never see the happy ever after are the average citizens of Jamaica.

Church ministry without God

Have you ever been to a church service and when the singers are singing you feel nothing? You can hear the words coming out of their mouths but they have no  conviction whatsoever? Music is one of the most important parts of church ministry and if God isn't in it, it shouldn't be called Gospel music to begin with. Some singers in church sing for self! They know they are blessed with beautiful voices so they use the church to showcase it but it isn't about ministry. It is simply to let people know what they have going on. They stand before you and they have blank expressions on their faces, while they sing such powerful lyrics. They aren't moved by it but they somehow expect that the congregation will be. The next issue is that of the modern day Gospel music. Call me old fashion but it isn't my flavour at all. Why should I have to be wondering whether I'm listening to Gospel or I'm at a dancehall event? Why does the church have to change itself to resemb...

Be more thankful

It's so easy for us to complain it's like we do it everyday. Are we more thankful for the blessings we have no matter how small they seem? It seems to me that more than ever people are more ungrateful than they are grateful. No matter how bad things are always remember that they could be much worse. Our house isn't big so we complain rather than be thankful that we have a house. Our pay cheque is small so we complain rather than be thankful that we have a job. Our skin isn't flawless so we complain instead of be thankful that we still have our skin to protect our bodies. Our body isn't sculpted perfectly so we complain instead of being thankful that all our body parts are still functioning. Our world is very ungrateful and we can never seem to be satisfied no matter how many blessings we have. This week I ask of you to be thankful for something everyday no matter how small it may seem.

The Jamaica of tomorrow

When shall the change come? Crime and violence ago continue and mash up Jamdung? Street lights come on at night and our window lids we shut tight tight No kids on the street, no time to meet and greet Why can't we no longer walk at nights? Why we don't have no peace? Police men guard the streets  Kids run quickly pass them not sure if they police or just undercover gunman and thief Thousands complete their university education but student loan awaits them in every gleaner publication Jamaica is such a beautiful nation, nice food and nuff happiness and sweet jubilation Wait a moment and turn the  TV off the international station Turn the dial to our local station No more happiness and sweet jubilation Blood flowing in the streets of poverty and ever increasing destruction You have the answers? Tell us how we need a change in politics Five years time and we still have the same corruption  You tell me to smile because better must come I ...
