Don't let my hair stress you!

Apparently, people are very preoccupied with hair these days. If you choose to relax your hair you are perceived to be ashamed of your black heritage and if you choose to keep your hair natural you are classified as being unprofessional, I've heard individuals speaking about how we don't like rules and we are turning away from how things were. Not because something was established in the olden days means it is still applicable today or holds any form of merit. In schools, children are being turned back simply because their hair is deemed unsuitable and that is simply a shame. When you send your children to school you send them to get an education and to grow as an individual but as parents you need to remember that schools will try to recondition what you have implemented at home. If a school tells a child that she should straighten her hair because her natural hair makes her look untidy the school is telling your child that her natural state is unsuitable and in order t...

Wear your natural crown

Growing up many of us were told that our natural crowns weren't beautiful. From a very young age many of us were told to idolize those deemed to have 'pretty hair'. When I speak about natural crown I don't speak about just our beautiful natural hair but our natural way of thinking. It is important to be proud of how we were naturally created by our maker but it is even more important to be proud of our natural way of thinking and to strive to not be corrupted by what society believes to be acceptable. Those who see the beauty in the natural you appreciate them and those that don't simply ignore them and continue on the natural path. We should never have to apologize or change how we were naturally created because we were created for that purpose and we are all naturally beau...

Where have all the good women gone?

If you take a look at social media sites it appears that men are voicing their opinions about relationships more than women are. Over the years, women are known more to be the sex that openly describe what they are looking for in a partner. Apparently, times have changed and men are letting it be known that it is very hard to find a partner to settle down with. What exactly has changed? Why is that men are finding it hard to find a nice young lady? Women are changing the way they view relationships and have become more dominant over the years. Women are becoming more open about their sexual practices and are not afraid to be as adventurous as their male counterparts. Loyalty, is the most common issue that men are finding when looking for a female to settle down with. Women are starting to flip the switch and playing the game the way men have been doing for years. Women will say from time to time that men are drawn to women who show more skin so they have opted to take that avenue. Yet ...

All the same

All the same By:Saccheen Laing Wavy long hair flows to her waist She walks with such familiarity as her freshly painted black and white nails frame her hips Have I seen her before?  You quickly approach her as she turns and flashes eyebrows obviously on fleek "Have I seen you before?" She smiles and says I don't think so Thinking long and hard you remember you see her everywhere you go She isn't one of a kind she sways with the crowd Face so neatly painted they demand your attention After awhile you seek more as sweat pours and the polish as run its course Is there more to her than what makes her blend in with the crowd? You don't have to wonder if you have seen her before As she slips in with those around her you become confused Is it this one is it another? How can you tell when they have become one
