Chase your passions

Think back to when you were younger as to the professions you were encouraged to choose from. About 70% of the people I came across would encourage me to be a lawyer, while the remaining 30% encouraged me to be a teacher like my father. My mother taught me to read very well before I started basic school. My birthday gifts were books every year. I loved reading and I fell in love with poetry from a very young age. I fell in love with the news and reporters in particular, and I knew the profession I was meant for was that of a journalist. This was frowned upon by many as I was told that journalism will not bring me enough money to live a lavish lifestyle. I've never told anyone that I was in search of a lavish lifestyle. Despite the discouraging feedback, I went to University and did journalism just the same. No, I'm not working as a journalist to date but I still have that dream. Throughout my time working on getting my qualifications in the media field, I ventured into my true

Graduating but clueless!

Image source: Google images You have just given birth to your first child and you are excited about all the plans you have for their future. You never got the chance to become a lawyer or a doctor so you proclaim that your child will come a doctor or a lawyer. You put in their minds from a young age that in order to be successful in life they have to choose one of the following paths. They grow up and they do everything in their power to make sure they become a lawyer or a doctor. What next? Everything else in life falls into place? Some never even end up reaching the ending due to the depression they face while trying to accomplish these plans you have made for them. As parents you are given the important task of guiding your child but you are not the one who is expected to make life choices for them as they plan out their future. As young people we have to do what will make us happy and not find ourselves permanently stuck in a job that drains you day in and out. Regardless

Bad things happen to good people

So I woke up this morning feeling like a big dark cloud on a sunny day. Have you ever just felt down out of the blue because of disappointments from years ago? When I woke up this morning tears came to my eyes as I lingered on the thought of why bad things happen to good people. You can give your very best to the world, treat people with kindness and never expect anything from them in return. I was always told that I will always be blessed for the good I have done. When will this blessing come exactly? I started to think about how easy it is for people to be mean towards me and how hard each day can be when  the world seems to just be out to get me. I started to ask myself what I ever did to deserve any of this and no answer comes to mind. I've simply just been handed a bad hand in life and apparently there is nothing I can do about it. I'm not writing this to seek sympathy from anyone. I'm writing this to see if I'm really alone in this world. Do you ever feel like no

Convince yourself

My life is my life and your life is your life. Simply put we need to spend more time focusing on ourselves. Everyday we come across people who see, to have life figured out. They have the perfect house, job and family.  However, do they really have everything figured out or are we just being fooled into thinking they do? Yes, there are people who have figured things out and are living out their dreams but there are those who are simply putting on a show tho let the world believe that they have figured it all out. This show will fool the world but it will do nothing for you. There are individuals who put so much effort into pushing the perfect images and telling the perfect stories of their life but put little or no effort into actually putting some truth to these images and stories. At the end of the day the truth will always come out. You are the one who will actually have to live with the true state of your life. Those who you put on the show for will just continue to look on in from

A look at love

I once had a friend who grew to be very close to me. Once when we were sitting at the edge of a swimming pool, she filled the palm of her hand with a little water and held it before me, and said this: "You see this water carefully contained on my hand? It symbolizes Love." This was how I saw it: "As long as you keep your hand caringly open and allow it to remain there, it will always be there. Ho wever, if you attempt to close your fingers round it and try to posses it, it will spill through the first cracks it finds. This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love...they try to posses it, they demand, they expect... and just like the water spilling out of your hand, Love will retrieve from you. For love is meant to be free, you cannot change its nature. If there are people you love, allow them to be free beings. Give and don't expect. Advise, but don't order. Ask, but never demand. It might sound simple, but it is a lesson that may take a lifetim

What did you learn from your mother?

Mother's Day is coming up a do many of us are either excited to show our mothers how much we love them or we will spend the day thinking about the memories that we shared with them while they were with us in this earth. Many of the life lessons that we go by each and everyday we were taught by our mothers whether they be good or bad. These days many mothers seem to use their child as more of am accessory than a vessel to be fed with the right nutrients needed for both physical and mental prosperity. For those who perhaps aren't aware as mothers it is important for you to do the best you can to teach the best values to your children. There are those who have mothers who have neglected their responsibilities completely and they are left to learn on their very own. For these individuals it's important that we who belong to the wider society impart knowledge to them as best as we can. Teaching your child is very very important but many of us either forget what we were

The Mixture

There is so much pain in the eyes The eyes of a child once shone bright and warmed you inside  So many people are hurting and the answers are nowhere to be found They tell us to keep praying but the pain continues to get worse Children eyes struggle to stay open as they receive their latest cancer dose The inability to play with their friends only brings more tears to their eyes The heat of the sun makes them weak as they try to stand tall to beg for something to eat The inability to smile and share the joy of being a child The guns increase in the streets but nobody knows how them reach Hatred so strong in the hearts of men They put a gun to the head of the young and they feel nothing their hearts are numb The day draws to an end and they tell us pain endures just for awhile How you tell that to a child? Whose father killed his mother then committed suicide leaving him behind The young man works hard to bring home money to take care of his wife and child He is held up on his way from

Life crashes

Don't die before you're dead

Many of us say that we are living life to the fullest and we are living with no regrets. However, at the end of the day when you have left school or work how accomplished do you feel? How alive do you feel sitting at work and doing whatever task your boss asks of you? How alive do you feel sitting in a classroom and learning about things that your teachers believe that you should learn about in order to become accomplished? At the end of the day many of us are simply just tir ed and we haven't even started to live as yet. Our heads are hung low because we carry the burden of all those people who are pushing us in so many directions. When are you getting married? Why aren't you driving as yet? When are you having children? Will those things make you feel alive? If not why go after them if you are only keeping up appearances? Many of us are living the perfect lives for others and are yet to live for ourselves. Don't die before you are dead.

Life breaks us

Life breaks us By:Saccheen Laing Is it all as simple as it seems? Is it so easy to put on a smile and pretend your happiness is real? Are you hiding behind the long lashes that shade your eyes? Is your vision still visible when your eyes are clouded by tears? Are you encouraged or discouraged by the fact that as your tears flow Life flows around you Life picks up the good and the bad and carries it along to the ocean of dreams  Dreams that have come to life or dreams that have come to be buried Do you still taste the happiness on your lips after the pleasure is released? Do you still feel the high long after the bottle breaks and the butt is out? Does life give you thrills that make you reminisce for years to come? The moments of excitement are quickly wiped away with one slip of your tongue Years of effort on a ship that left you letting in waters of regret and anger Anger at the master builder? Anger at the captain? Anger at the passenger? Who can you blame for your ship not withstan
