The Life we Live

A little rain falls and dried up stains of blood are washed away Gunshot rings out and we turn up our music Shouts of rape and we pretend not to hear it Life goes on its just another idle child life gone Politics is the order of the day again till we get a little wake up call What can you hear or see? When your car class is tinted so darkly People call out for justice but nothing is done another police man just fire his gun Then you hear of vision 2030 Ain't nothing wrong with a little hope  But who will be left here if every other day another child life is taken away How can you comfort a mother whose child was just killed by the police How can you comfort a class of students whose teacher was chopped to death on our streets What about the plan for today? We can't read lips open up your mouth and let the people know what your about A leader with no voice? What good can that do for us? Poverty is still with us, crime ever present, corruption n

Wise up!!!!

So many people going missing each day and you don't hear the Prime Minister or others leaders talking about it Yet they are so vocal when it comes to other issues whats the point of getting all these added resources if the most important resource, the people are disappearing one by one what is it? Thinking about your self as usual. The only time they bring up certain issues is when a major killing takes place what happen other people pain isn't as important? When a leader dies messages are heard left, right and center why when a child goes missing, or people die on the roads because of careless drivers or a woman is raped and when people are turned down for jobs because they don't know someone in high position.

Preaching on JUTC bus

So recently the issue has come up and people have been throwing out their opinions here there and everywhere. I currently don't take the JUTC buses but during my high school days I was a regular passenger. When it comes to the preaching on buses I mean yes we have the freedom to worship who we please and so forth but there is also the saying that there is a time and please for everything. I believe that the preaching on buses should indeed be banned because I believe it should be a choice for someone to want to be ministered to. I don't believe it should be forced on them they should be given the choice to turn it on or off like they could do in the comfort of their homes. When someone pays for a bus service they expect to be taken to their destination in relative comfort. One does not know what each individual is going through some may be tired, want to be left alone or troubled with various issues and would simply like to be left alone. These preachers on the buses always

Females vs Males in Sports

Another sponsor for the Reggae Boys that's not a surprise. Everyone is aware of the Jamaica cricket team and their accolades but how many Jamaicans are aware of the accomplishments of the netball team, the football team or even or cricket team. For the every improving netball team its always comes as a shock to me to know that they have to come together and put on fund raisers to gain the money they need to compete. I believe that sponsorship from the government should be given to teams based on how they perform not based on how popular they are to the majority of the population. There are so many talented females who are doing just as good or even better than some males. If you haven't noticed women are no longer restricted in any area of life. While watching sports recently I saw a female boxer quite accomplished but as you can see I'm not even aware of her name and I'm sure many others aren't even aware of who I'm talking about. The government continues t

Police unstable???

I'm one of the few young people who ensures that I watch the news every night both at 7pm and 8pm unlike the prime minister who says she doesn't watch the news. Well I don't have people to tell me what exactly takes place and I rather to get the information straight from the horses mouth. Now, something troubled me while watching the news recently. I was informed that there have been 18 police killings since the start of the new year. New year-same stories from the officers, shoot out here there and everywhere. Now call me stupid or not but why would a single man decide to take on three or four police men with one single gun? and why would trained police man feel threatened by one man so much so that they can't restrain him but have to kill him. That shows a lack of proper training in all areas on the part of the police men. When it comes to police men killing the homeless that to me is taking things a bit too far. One man confronted three police men and you are tel

Empty youths

'Oh wow 'another party advertisements comes up on my television, on my computer, radio and in my hand as I make my way up and down the school campus.Placed in the back of their heads are the once thought of dreams of becoming a lawyer, doctor, teacher or even a police man/ woman. The young man today has dreams of just simply becoming accomplished by having a couple of dollars in his pocket and a car with shiny rims that's success to the average man these days. Spending money on several parties is not considered wasting money to them but spending say $130 to arrive at school is simply too much of an expense. Getting the latest brand in clothing and phones is a must and if you don't have you are frowned upon. These are the minds who are forming the new norms of our country.Less is more continues to be the slogan for our females as they make their way to these parties. Some will go to hell and beyond just to get attention from a man who will more or less forget their names the

University 'Worth IT'??

Millions spent going to university,no jobs guaranteed but yet still we are encouraged to get a university education to help build up Jamaica.I see several advertisements in the paper and on the television encouraging young people to seek a university education in other countries. Thousands of students enter universities each year and have a degree to show at the end. Is seeking a university education simply about just having a degree to show at the end or becoming equipped with the skills needed to help Jamaica to move forward? If universities are being seen as an avenue to bring those who are viewed as being in the lower class on the same shelf as the upper class then why is that university education is so expensive? Why is it that often to get a scholarship its those who know someone are more favoured to be selected while those who have no fancy labels to their names have to work double or triple times harder to have their names be on the list? Divisions don't  stop there the

Jamaica growing old

So while sitting at UTech recently I started to think about the beauty of Jamaica. I noticed Indians, Africans, Rasta men, Muslims, Christians and a smile flashed across my face as I quickly remembered our motto "Out of Many one People'. How often do you think about it? some people will say the mix of different cultures together is what makes Jamaica unique but what if its the reason why we have the many problems that we have. Are the problems that Jamaica face unique to Jamaica? Or are people being a bit too judgmental?. Indeed Jamaica is struggling financially, education of young people is not where it should be and crime is Jamaica's middle name. I am on social media a lot so I observe young people as much as I possibly can and I have come to the conclusion that the thinking of young people in Jamaica are primarily of getting rich quick and hopefully Jamaica will follow. Why not turn around that way of thinking to reflect Jamaica getting rich and in turn the citizens

The forgotten Jamaica

Have you ever stopped to think do we even remember why we are proud to be Jamaicans? Perhaps your answer might be our achievements in sports, music or even our food. However have you stopped to think that we have come to accept that Jamaica is mostly known for violence and weed smoking? At first you might say no but those are mere words as our actions show a whole other story. We share pictures of half naked women, songs promoting weed smoking and violent activities, music videos of Jamaican women in compromising positions. How often do you stop to share something about the history of Jamaica? How much of  the Jamaica's history do you even know? More often I have heard that its boring, whats the point of learning all of that? Yet we shout our in large numbers that we are the future and we aren't be listened to. A future that knows not of its origins, yet much positivity is expected of them. In order for us to bring about this change that we speak so much of we have to talk ab

My view on Jamaica

The Fear of Jamaicans

Bright yellow sun you see when your eyes are open No matter how many times I blink my eyes I see bloody skies, bloody sun, bloody hands, bloody guns A wife applied makeup for the bruises left after her husband pierced her delicate flesh unaware that the makeup couldn’t cover the pain that resonated on her heart. A little boy eyes glistens with excitement as he polishes a gun that has just been placed in his hands by the area leader, unaware that he would use it to take the life of his friend. Don’t you feel the fear leave their bodies like steam from a bubbling engine A little girl waves innocently to a man on the corner, unaware that later he would cut out her innocence from its protective shield. I see the fear around as I sweep my gate in the mornings yet some of us have dust on our eyes like the dust on my window ledges.  Our leaders fail to see the roads we walk on paved with dried blood of innocent lives. Three locks on my doors as I protect my fa

Street Children

Street Children They wipe your car glass As you make your way to work You drop a coin at their feet as if they have no worth They ask you for help  You say you have no time The same clothes they wear each and everyday While you pack up ten and thousands of clothes to throw away Neglected by their parents Who are often children themselves What a country we live in We preach that the children are the future and each child must learn Then why is it that they fight to survive and earn on their own You splash the waters on them while you drive in your heavy trucks Songs are written about them It's obvious they are seen The leaders of our country say they care But have we even given them a one meal We sit around the tables in our parliament house Make plans for our country, millions spent on celebrations While another child is abused and killed What has happened to the heart of our leaders? I believe covered with pride and hunger for
