Where are the Jamaican fathers?

Well, it's Father's Day today and not much is being said on social media platforms in comparison to Mother's Day that was celebrated in May. Where are our Jamaican fathers? When some people think of their fathers they think nothing but hatred. For many, they have never met their father or their father doesn't have a positive impact on their lives. But in the same breath there are those fathers who took up the role from day one and have always placed their children first. We need to not cloud the day with the memories of the disappointing fathers but spread it with thankfulness for those who live up their responsibilities each and every day. Jamaica needs fathers to stand up and be responsible for grooming their children in the right way. I want to rebuke mothers who keep their children from their father because of their own hatred for the father. Mothers, don't be selfish because of your own feelings but remember the needs of your child.

Can you imagine how much better our society would be if fathers would stand up and be good role models for their children? Teach their sons the good value of hard work and respect for females. Teach their daughters how to respect themselves and what true love looks like. Th missing fathers at the head of the family table is hurting our society. If we don't stand up and make changes today, the cycle will only continue. Females need to also be more careful in who they decide to have children with because you can always end the sexual relationship with him but your child will have to live with that missing link in their lives. Fathers, being a father is much more than providing money for your children, it's about teaching the, and loving them as best as you can. So today, it is my hope that all the great fathers who are still with us and those who have left this earth will be honoured and for the fathers who aren't doing their job they will start to do so as soon as possible.

Church ministry without God

Have you ever been to a church service and when the singers are singing you feel nothing? You can hear the words coming out of their mouths but they have no  conviction whatsoever? Music is one of the most important parts of church ministry and if God isn't in it, it shouldn't be called Gospel music to begin with. Some singers in church sing for self! They know they are blessed with beautiful voices so they use the church to showcase it but it isn't about ministry. It is simply to let people know what they have going on. They stand before you and they have blank expressions on their faces, while they sing such powerful lyrics. They aren't moved by it but they somehow expect that the congregation will be. The next issue is that of the modern day Gospel music. Call me old fashion but it isn't my flavour at all. Why should I have to be wondering whether I'm listening to Gospel or I'm at a dancehall event? Why does the church have to change itself to resemb...

Be more thankful

It's so easy for us to complain it's like we do it everyday. Are we more thankful for the blessings we have no matter how small they seem? It seems to me that more than ever people are more ungrateful than they are grateful. No matter how bad things are always remember that they could be much worse. Our house isn't big so we complain rather than be thankful that we have a house. Our pay cheque is small so we complain rather than be thankful that we have a job. Our skin isn't flawless so we complain instead of be thankful that we still have our skin to protect our bodies. Our body isn't sculpted perfectly so we complain instead of being thankful that all our body parts are still functioning. Our world is very ungrateful and we can never seem to be satisfied no matter how many blessings we have. This week I ask of you to be thankful for something everyday no matter how small it may seem.

When shall the change come? Crime and violence ago continue and mash up Jamdung? Street lights come on at night and our window lids we shut tight tight No kids on the street, no time to meet and greet Why can't we no longer walk at nights? Why we don't have no peace? Police men guard the streets  Kids run quickly pass them not sure if they police or just undercover gunman and thief Thousands complete their university education but student loan awaits them in every gleaner publication Jamaica is such a beautiful nation, nice food and nuff happiness and sweet jubilation Wait a moment and turn the  TV off the international station Turn the dial to our local station No more happiness and sweet jubilation Blood flowing in the streets of poverty and ever increasing destruction You have the answers? Tell us how we need a change in politics Five years time and we still have the same corruption  You tell me to smile because better must come I ...
