True Jamaica Beauty

Last week I was looking through the comments on some of the pictures of this years contestants in the Miss Jamaica World competition and it literally drove me to write this today. Who really is the ideal Jamaican beauty? Shouldn't it be a Jamaican woman who is confident and proud to be  Jamaican one who is knowledgeable about the history of the nation?. I was baffled by the terms used by some of our Jamaican people, one individual stated "She too black" another stated "She too white and  American looking" what does a Jamaican woman look like? Once again I'm left to think that our people have forgotten that our motto is 'Out of Many one People' maybe its time we create a new motto that embodies the new frame of mind that our people are in.
I saw a young lady, dark skinned with unprocessed hair and a comment read,"Now this is a true Jamaican beauty" should I then conclude that lighter skinned women with long hair or women with processed hair aren't true Jamaican beauties? what are we saying to our young women? It's often said that black women are looked down upon in Jamaica and aren't given equal opportunities compared to lighter skinned women. Now the flip side is some lighter skinned women are feeling like outcast. The 'Out of Many' is not materializing in the day to day thinking of our people not to mention the 'One People'. If we have this idea in our head that the true Jamaican beauty is limited to only one  skin tone or one hair type then I urge to consider your way of thinking. In my opinion a true Jamaican beauty is one who is able to show the world what Jamaica is all about in everything she does.

Church ministry without God

Have you ever been to a church service and when the singers are singing you feel nothing? You can hear the words coming out of their mouths but they have no  conviction whatsoever? Music is one of the most important parts of church ministry and if God isn't in it, it shouldn't be called Gospel music to begin with. Some singers in church sing for self! They know they are blessed with beautiful voices so they use the church to showcase it but it isn't about ministry. It is simply to let people know what they have going on. They stand before you and they have blank expressions on their faces, while they sing such powerful lyrics. They aren't moved by it but they somehow expect that the congregation will be. The next issue is that of the modern day Gospel music. Call me old fashion but it isn't my flavour at all. Why should I have to be wondering whether I'm listening to Gospel or I'm at a dancehall event? Why does the church have to change itself to resemb...

Be more thankful

It's so easy for us to complain it's like we do it everyday. Are we more thankful for the blessings we have no matter how small they seem? It seems to me that more than ever people are more ungrateful than they are grateful. No matter how bad things are always remember that they could be much worse. Our house isn't big so we complain rather than be thankful that we have a house. Our pay cheque is small so we complain rather than be thankful that we have a job. Our skin isn't flawless so we complain instead of be thankful that we still have our skin to protect our bodies. Our body isn't sculpted perfectly so we complain instead of being thankful that all our body parts are still functioning. Our world is very ungrateful and we can never seem to be satisfied no matter how many blessings we have. This week I ask of you to be thankful for something everyday no matter how small it may seem.

When shall the change come? Crime and violence ago continue and mash up Jamdung? Street lights come on at night and our window lids we shut tight tight No kids on the street, no time to meet and greet Why can't we no longer walk at nights? Why we don't have no peace? Police men guard the streets  Kids run quickly pass them not sure if they police or just undercover gunman and thief Thousands complete their university education but student loan awaits them in every gleaner publication Jamaica is such a beautiful nation, nice food and nuff happiness and sweet jubilation Wait a moment and turn the  TV off the international station Turn the dial to our local station No more happiness and sweet jubilation Blood flowing in the streets of poverty and ever increasing destruction You have the answers? Tell us how we need a change in politics Five years time and we still have the same corruption  You tell me to smile because better must come I ...
