Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, which way will you go?

Here I was sitting in front of my television screen watching Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall like I do basically every Saturday. The show was running smoothly and I was fully immersed in the various performances. Just as I got prepared to hear the comments of Miss Kitty like I always do her body language changed and she prepared to release words that in my opinion she will come to regret. After imparting her words in such a knowledgeable fashion I figured that the show would either break or just quickly move to the next segment. Well, no such luck as Yanique the curvy diva made her rebuttal. Immediately, social media went into fourth gear and hasn't slowed down since then with various opinions on the incident.

From where I sat I was simply disappointed in the unprofessional behaviour of both ladies. Firstly, Miss Kitty for addressing the issue on the platform that she did. The issues that she may or may not have with Yanique is not the concern of the public. It has nothing to do with the show or the population at large so I'm not sure why she felt the need to use the public as an audience to speak to Yanique. Secondly, just as Miss Kitty was wrong for bringing the issue to the live show and could have confronted Yanique in her dressing room she could have responded by confronting her after the show to show some form of maturity.

For years, Miss Kitty has prided herself on uplifting women either about their looks or about elevating themselves educationally. The way she spoke to Yanique was as if she was somewhat looking down at the young lady which is something I believe was not acceptable on her part. Both ladies are in the lime light and are even looked upon to lead as examples by some young ladies. I implore both parties to sharpen up, mature and set better examples for those who look on for examples of how to uplift themselves. Enough of the arguments and throwing of words about trivial things such as looks. Imagine if we spent half the time that we spend on competing on actually working together to improve the lives of  young girls? Now is not the time for childish name games but for women to be united so we can improve ourselves daily.

Church ministry without God

Have you ever been to a church service and when the singers are singing you feel nothing? You can hear the words coming out of their mouths but they have no  conviction whatsoever? Music is one of the most important parts of church ministry and if God isn't in it, it shouldn't be called Gospel music to begin with. Some singers in church sing for self! They know they are blessed with beautiful voices so they use the church to showcase it but it isn't about ministry. It is simply to let people know what they have going on. They stand before you and they have blank expressions on their faces, while they sing such powerful lyrics. They aren't moved by it but they somehow expect that the congregation will be. The next issue is that of the modern day Gospel music. Call me old fashion but it isn't my flavour at all. Why should I have to be wondering whether I'm listening to Gospel or I'm at a dancehall event? Why does the church have to change itself to resemb...

Loving a black man that doesn't love me

Image source: Google Images His beautiful dark skin made rich from the earth, his physical strength supporting where I am physically weak, his beautiful smile and then the depth of his speech. In a world where the wrongs that he has done is spoken about more frequently than what is good about him. I see the beauty in black unions,I see the beauty in black souls connecting, I see beauty in being by his side. The issue is, he no longer sees beauty in me. We walk paths these days paved with the broken connections. Couples who once professed to be so deeply in love now pretend to not know each other. We walk paths  where you can pour the purest of love into the vessel of a man/woman and they remain empty. On one side, we have black men who believe that black women have lost their worth. They have lost the meaning of what it means to be a Queen. The black man believes that the black woman has wrapped herself in the labels that society has placed on her. The black woman is ofte...
