Royalty vs the peasants

This morning I woke up a gleaner article stating that certain roads are being fixed due to the approaching visit of the president of the United States. Of course, like many of my fellow Jamaicans I believe it's really a privilege that the president will be making his presence be felt on our beautiful island. My problem however, is the utter lack of respect that this government apparently has for the regular Jamaican citizens. I watch the news basically every night and almost every night there are citizens protesting about the conditions of roads in their community. My concern really is quite simple is it that we are not worthy of our roads being fixed, are we just peasants and need to reach a certain level in society or perhaps migrate and elevate our status before our concerns will be addressed in such a quick manner? Am I to believe that this is the same government who claims to not have the funds necessary to fix the roads that we as citizens have been complaining about?

Natural to an 'extent'

I for one am all for the natural hair movement. I have never sewn in any hair in my head but I occasionally wear braids. At the present moment my hair is relaxed and Imam contemplating going back to my natural texture. The problem however that I do have is those natural ladies who try to let other women who choose to keep their hair relaxed or wear false hair feel bad about themselves. These are the same ladies who often speak of how they are ridiculed and made to feel unattractive with their natural hair. The constant hate that we as women show towards those who differ from us in taste and character is what will continually bring us down as women. Also, for women who advocate for women to embrace their natural hair because that is how we were made and  we shouldn't alter our natural bodies please explain to me why you pierce your flesh and tattoo your skin. When you do these things are you not altering the natural state of your flesh? How different is this from altering the natura

Friendships

Friendships and relationships continue to suffer due to the journey for perfection. People enhance their bodies on the journey to what they view as perfection. People seek knowledge of certain things in order to achieve perfect intellect. This journey towards perfect leaves us from time to time to believe that others around us must themselves step up and be perfect or they no longer fit into our perfect lives. Believe it or not those friends who falter from time to time will help you to either learn from their mistakes or they will inspire you when they overcome the mishaps. As friends we can't drop those who maybe aren't able to keep up with the speed at which we are reaching the end our journeys. Often times I see quotes that speak about drop those who aren't going anywhere behind and go after your dreams. However, we have to make sure that we don't drop those who are progressing but aren't yet at perfection.

Love don't cost a thing

Recently,I have been making observations on social media sites a little more than I usually do. My focus was primarily on the standards that people have these days. What makes someone fall in love and what makes them stay in love? These days it seems as if young girls are conditioned to look first and foremost on the weight of a man's pocket before they look at  his character. Don't get me wrong nothing is wrong with wanting someone who can provide for you but why make it solely about just that? Many of the heartbreak that women face these days are because they are too easily hypnotized by the dollar bills and too easily swayed by a man's status in society. As it relates to men these days something has been puzzling me as well. Why would a man leave a women who stood by him while he had nothing until he achieved his dreams then get up and leave her  for the first gold digger that walks by? Men need to wise up and stop be hypnotized by the sway of hips and naked flesh and st

Life crashes

I am a child

I am just a child I say to myself as I put on my uniform and my mother greets me with a smile I am just a child but my body makes people question why? Why I as a child have a six months belly before me ? I sit in class and try to learn My baby kicks me as a reminder of the nightmare I now call life The nightmares take me from my class to the night my light turned to darkness I left school about 5pm after netball practice See I was the best player on my team It was late so hurried to catch a bus As I walked the street to my home I realized I wasn't walking alone The footsteps drew closer and I became nervous Two heavy hands held me back and my uniform was lifted from my back His eyes were dark and empty He buried my body with his and took every ounce of my purity I am a child I shouted and he only laughed I am a child I repeated and he only continued to thrust The blood poured from my young vessel and I knew my gift was lost forever He stood up and said thank you
