The Mixture

There is so much pain in the eyes The eyes of a child once shone bright and warmed you inside  So many people are hurting and the answers are nowhere to be found They tell us to keep praying but the pain continues to get worse Children eyes struggle to stay open as they receive their latest cancer dose The inability to play with their friends only brings more tears to their eyes The heat of the sun makes them weak as they try to stand tall to beg for something to eat The inability to smile and share the joy of being a child The guns increase in the streets but nobody knows how them reach Hatred so strong in the hearts of men They put a gun to the head of the young and they feel nothing their hearts are numb The day draws to an end and they tell us pain endures just for awhile How you tell that to a child? Whose father killed his mother then committed suicide leaving him behind The young man works hard to bring home money to take care of his wife and child He is held up on his way f...

The Jamaican Child

Watch them all caught up in them politics! Turn on the news another Jamaican child life has ended too quick Busy making plans for the future they say  While everyday the future is being taking away How can you not cry out when you hear of the death of a child? They drop by and offer words of assurance just for a little while Our little girls are being taken advantage of yet elders continue lust Every day we brace ourselves to hear about more pain reaching our children Yet we remember for a while and we move on with our lives because it's not our child It's so captivating to hear a child laugh yet these men find joy in taking innocence from a child So young, filled with great potential yet at just 12,13,14,15 they are killed before their time More and more parents are burying their children our country is really in reverse No matter how many developments take place in our country we continue to disregard our true worth The most influential minds pretend as if they don't hear...

Simons says DO so you better DO

This morning, I woke up to the internet buzzing about some Kylie Jenner challenge as it relates to the size of her lips. I mean hundred of thousands of young people world wide just taking time to put their lips in bottles and make them swell in order to make fun of a celebrity. This recent development took me back to my blog about the obsession with celebrities. How often do young people come together to spread positivity compared to the times that they come together to take up some silly challenge after another or just poke fun at people. It's truly amazing how influential celebrities can be but most of the times we tend to forget that they are humans just like you and I. They do make mistakes, they do suffer heartbreak and they do have flaws. Our young people are so easily influenced and instead of spreading more positive messages for them to adapt those of us with the power, simply add fuel to the fire with our obsessions with looks, hyper-sexualization, inappropriate d...

Just 14

Can someone tell me why my friend had to die? Just 14 and I have to watch his mothers eyes run dry My friend wanted to be the fastest track star Only God knows how much more I miss him as each day goes by When the sun goes down my heart beats faster The fear in my eyes now permanent as the gunshots come closer as I walk by Such beauty in my country but the ugliness is always near by You tell me to sit still and make learning my priority  The window shakes and our screams get louder and louder Our books fall off our tables as our education is left behind just for a while I'm just 14 but I've seen so many around me die  Dead bodies have become the norm and it no longer makes me cry This is the reality on my sweet little island They tell me to make my future my priority  But is there a promise of even a tomorrow? The gunshots increase and I see my teacher calling out for us to leave Four bodies on the ground, lifeless with no soul Promises of bright futures now buried a...

Television

It's really alarming the amount of time we spend watching television and especially the things that we do watch on television. We allow the media to tell us what to eat, what to wear, what is the truth, what to hate, who to hate and what is true beauty. We tune in each and everyday to find out where we belong and if we don't match up what we should change to attain the ideal. These days children are given tablets and toys more than they are given books. Growing up several of my birthday gifts were books and I'm thankful that was thought the importance of reading from a young age These days we are shocked by the fact that individuality is such a rare thing yet we all sit in front of the television screen and are fed ideas instead of thinking up our own. When I read a book it opens up my mind and I picture all that the reader is trying to show me I'm not forced to accept anything I'm allowed to create my own story. The television is simply another avenue to control our...

Young Jamaicans with old thinking

I am all about my fellow young people jumping into the ring and showing the world what we have to offer and the changes that we can make once we are given the opportunity to do so. I believe that as the times change around us so too should those who have been in charge of our nation for decades should be changed as well. Our leaders have been given the opportity to forumale change but many have neither tried or they have been unsuccessful therefore a change needs to take place and new faces with new ideas should be able to show what they can bring forward. However, sadly it seems that many young people are simply just young in body but have the same old way of thinking. One would think that they would use their young and sharp minds to come up with new ideas that will help to shape a better Jamaica but instead they allow themselves to be saturated by the same way of political thinking that the country is indeed tired of. If young people are going to step up with the same id...
